Seica Inc. is pleased to announce its participation at The Battery Show in Atlanta at Booth #515. At this event, Seica will show its latest innovative testing solutions specifically designed for the electric mobility sector, a market that continues to present significant technological challenges in the development of production processes, including testing, which is crucial for increasing productivity, improving product reliability and optimizing costs. Tests guaranteeing the reliability and safety of EV modules.
One of the main challenges is ensuring the quality and reliability of the electrical connections between battery cells, which are essential for the battery pack’s proper operation. To meet the growing need for electrical testing of the bonds inside battery packs, Seica has introduced the Pilot BT flying probe line: Pilot BT, Pilot BTV, and Pilot BTP. These systems offer exceptional flexibility, capable of handling various battery types, but must be large enough to accommodate even the biggest formats today.
The Pilot BT, can perform precise, parallel Kelvin tests on over 32 cells simultaneously from the TOP side of the battery pack, reaching speeds of nearly 4,800 cells per minute. It features a large test area (1200 x 1200 mm) and a Bosch system for efficient pack handling. For more complex configurations requiring multi-sided access and award winning, Seica’s Pilot BTV (Vertical Battery Tester) offers automatic access on three sides, making it ideal for “double” battery packs needing bonding tests on both sides and BMS access on the TOP side.
In 2024 Seica S.p.A. was awarded the prestigious Mexico Technology Award for its Pilot BTV, which was celebrated for its innovative three-axis probing and comprehensive testing features. The Pilot BTV sets a new standard in EV battery testing by significantly enhancing accuracy and coverage.
The Pilot BTP is the latest battery tester from the Pilot series to be introduced to the market, designed for low-volume prototyping tasks and batteries with cells positioned with non-repetitive geometry. The PILOT BTP is an automated horizontal system with 4 flying heads that provides true full-size, parallel EV battery pack testing, with a test area of 1050 x 865 mm and speeds in excess of 600 tests per minute. Maximum flexibility for irregular layouts and medium test speeds make it the best for prototyping testing.
To ensure high-quality battery packs, cells must undergo a rigorous process to measure their internal resistance (IR). This includes the use of ACIR (Alternating Current Internal Resistance) testing, typically at 1kHz with a 100mA current. Seica’s Mini 80 system offering a solution that can be integrated directly into an automation line for efficient and precise measurements. The Seica ACIR solution will allow visitors to test their batteries immediately at Booth #515
The Battery Management System (BMS) is a key component, crucial for the performance, reliability, and longevity of batteries. Seica’s Compact BMS is equipped with specialized tools and a battery cell simulator designed to carry out comprehensive functional testing of the BMS by accurately simulating the cell’s behavior.
Electric motors convert electrical energy from the inverter into mechanical power to drive vehicle wheels, often exceeding speeds of 20,000 RPM. Comprehensive testing of an electric motor’s performance requires specialized systems and expertise. Seica’s EMT EOL line is designed for this purpose, featuring three models (250/600/3000) to accommodate a wide range of motors. Testing involves using a torque sensor to measure maximum force and simulating vehicle load with a secondary motor, which can act as a braking motor or simulate regenerative braking. In regenerative braking tests, the motor acts as a generator, sending energy back to the inverter to recharge the battery.
In addition to Seica’s test solutions showcased at Booth #515, visitors can also explore Canavisia’s Industry 5.0 software and hardware offerings.
